This expansive family garden sits in a large 3/4 acre plot and includes dedicated spaces for al fresco dining and entertaining as well as an inviting outdoor swimming pool and fabulous children’s play space. The brief for this project was to reimagine the existing rather bland garden which was dominated by laurel hedges on all sides and split down the middle by a particularly enormous hedge which cut off half the garden from the house. Now the upper garden opens out onto a generous entertaining terrace with space to seat friends and family. The planting here is soft and romantic with wispy grasses and silvery lamb’s ears contrasting with formal structural yew and bay balls and punctuated by two gorgeous multi-stem Amelanchier trees. A large formal lawn is flanked by extensive perennial planting which provides colour and interest throughout the year. From here a majestic three arch oak pergola frames the steps down to the newly created lower garden where you can relax on sun loungers surrounded by planting or sip a cold drink in the dappled shade of the roof-trained trees while keeping an eye on the children having fun in their dedicated play area.
