QUEEN’S AVENUE, IG8

Designed Summer 25; Planted March 26; Photographed June 26

It was equal measures exciting and daunting to be asked to work on this project. The clients are keen gardeners with an already lovely and unique outdoor space. My job was to transform the tired patio area by the house, connecting it to the rest of the garden and creating something that blended sensitively with the existing quirky details. Given the north facing aspect and the size of the garden I was keen to bring the new dining area further out into the garden, and, to avoid a vast expanse of patio, we planted a multi-stem Amelanchier as a feature tree within the paving. This immediately zoned the space creating two cosy seating areas, as well as casting a little light dappled shade on a hot summer’s day. A water bowl positioned near the house is the perfect spot for garden birds to have a quick dip. A light tough lighting scheme focuses on the area by the house extending the use of the garden on a hot summer evening.

“Amelia has been truly fantastic to work with. She transformed an ok garden into the most beautiful space we could have wished for. She has the happy knack of being able to combine great vision with excellent practical know how. She listens, is thoughtful and she communicates.”
