Herongate Road, E12

Designed Spring 25; Planted Autumn 25; Photographed July 26

The initial client brief for this garden was a lush, green, shady space but in order to have created that we would have needed to blow the budget on creating that shade in the first place. Better, we decided, to work with the conditions on site and pivot towards a sunnier scheme. The stunning new garden room, with its Yorkstone cladding, combined with the neighbour’s apple tree fruiting at the exact moment we were working on this design, sent us down a far more interesting ‘slightly Scandi’ path and we’ve ended up with a riot of seasonal colour and abundance throughout the space. Amongst the enthusiastic planting there are multiple hard-working spaces hidden away for dining, cooking, and yoga-ing. There’s even space for the clients to add a free-standing sauna at a later date.
